Meta tags are HTML codes that are inserted into the header on a web page, following the title tag. The main purpose of SEO Meta Tags is to help search engines understand, catalog and categorize the Web page. Meta tags are in variety of forms and serve a variety of purposes but in the perspective of search engine optimization when people refer to Meta tags, they are frequently referring to the Meta description tag and the Meta keywords tag.
The Meta description tag and the Meta keywords tag were projected so that webmasters would have a reliable technique for providing Meta document data to user agents, such as search engines. Meta description tags are not considered as a most important factor for search engines when think about the ranking of sites. In SEO Both the Meta keywords tag and the Meta description tag contribute to the search engine ranking, and the Meta description tag influences the likelihood that a person will actually click on the search engine results page and visit your site.
A Meta keywords tag is supposed to be a brief and concise list of the most important themes of the web-page. Meta keywords tags should hold some feature , the main thing is that keep the list of keywords or keyword phrases down to 10 – 15 unique words or phrases, divide the words or phrases using a comma ,do not replicate words or phrases and put the most important word or phrases at the beginning of the list.
When SEO Meta Tags are properly optimized, it helps to have much more control over what is displayed in search results and influence how people can find particular site in search engines. When SEO Meta Tags are not properly optimized, search engines will have to guess what to use and this is adversely affect the performance, so utmost care is required in optimization.
