After around a week of beta testing, and having ironed out the few bugs that were reported, the Google+ project is now live for the general public to signup. Previously this had been through invite only, helping restrict server issues whilst the new networking website was in test status.
With active users of the Google+ social network expected to reach 10,000,000 within just a few more days, the project has been an undoubted success from day one. The World was crying out for a solution that blends the best of Twitter, Facebook and the numerous features from Google.
The thing that stands out most is the Circles feature, for us it’s a fantastic idea and let’s you sort out the stream you want to see. For example, whilst at work I can choose to look at the IM3 stream we have created (https://plus.google.com/u/1/stream/circles/p1623ce3e8a7fabb3) which keeps me up to date with our industry news.
Back at home I can simply switch between streams of my interests, each simply created by adding and naming a new circle. Family show’s me what my brother’s have been up to. My sports circle show’s me how bad Sheffield Wednesday are performing and what Lewis Hamilton is complaining about this week. My friends circle updates me on all the social gossip I crave!
If you are not signed up and are unsure, do try it and have a go at the Circles feature first. As soon as you experience just how simple it is to categorise your social and work interests, like me you’ll be hooked.
